Perched on the most northerly tip of mainland UK, Ackergill Tower dates from 1476.

Ackergill Tower has had a long and chequered history and the current owners are only the fourth owners of this welcoming Scottish castle.  Having undertaken a two and a half year programme of restoration, Ackergill Tower was probably the first and foremost Scottish house of its kind to open her doors to the exclusive use business. She has been at the top of that tree for over 25 years. Together with a very loyal and attentive Caithness staff and delicious local food, Ackergill Tower is one of those very rare places where time stands still and the worries of the world seem to disappear.

With 23 double and twin bedded rooms as well as 2 single bedrooms, all with their own bathroom, Ackergill Tower can easily accommodate up to 48 guests in great comfort. The Tower itself has 17 bedrooms of which 15 are doubles or twins and there are 2 single bedrooms.  

There are 2 private suites in the Old Laundry, 3 double bedrooms in the Keepers Lodge and additional accommodation in the Garden Cottage and Smiddy. There are glorious views from the Morning Room towards the Skerries Lighthouse, which guards against the dangerous tides and eddies of the Pentland Firth.

Ackergill Tower is all about quality time, whether it be a meeting in the Tree House or a dinner in the Tower's Great Hall with drummers heralding in the beef or a pipe band parading on the lawn. The Opera House is the perfect place for any sort of party, ceilidh or musical entertainment.  It is the most northerly Opera House, once a place for Sir George to store his coaches after a 3 week trek from the south but now home to perfect acoustics and the enchanting sounds from a variety of music genres.

A host of activities can be organised for our guests to enjoy.  Golf (Wick, Brora and Struie golf courses are all nearby), picnics, archery, clay pigeon shooting and rifle shooting, game shooting and stalking, falconry, salmon and trout fishing and walking are all examples of some of the fun that we can organise for you.

Ackergill Tower has a fine wine cellar and guests are made to feel so welcome here from the moment they arrive.

The far north of Scotland has a very special atmosphere and the night skies are quite amazing with occasional meteor showers and it is so far north that you get incredibly long hours of daylight in the summer months.
