Cornbury Park is a family home near Charlbury in Oxfordshire and the last great house decorated by John Fowler in his lifetime. The estate includes some 1,700 acres of the most ancient forest in Britain today and is a protected environment for native wildlife, creating a unique habitat in one of the few private forests in England.
Originally a royal hunting lodge, Cornbury Park combines a variety of enterprises including private house rentals in the most stunning of settnigs. The house is surrounded by a 350 acre deer park and aside from the forest, there are lakes, a tennis court, huge swimming pool and extensive gardens. The stable wing has been converted into office space.
The house is impressive outside and stunning inside with extremely elegant rooms leading off a central corridor. The key rooms are a large state of the art kitchen, an elegant dining room which can seat 24, a formal drawing room, a more relaxed sitting room and a library. There is a very pretty hall, off which is a further sitting room/study. There is also a smaller dining room, playroom and all the usual utility rooms you would expect in any large house.
On the first floor, there are 8 grand double bedrooms, all but one with a four poster bed and each with its own bathroom. There are seven minor bedrooms, more suitable for children/teenagers' accommodation with 3 additional bathrooms. This is an extremely gracious house, surrounded by wonderful grounds and peacocks on the lawn. For a special family gathering in a stunning location close to London, Cornbury is hard to beat!
