Idyllic estate with charming gardens

Fort William stands at the end of a long drive in a wonderful elevated position surrounded by 400 acres of woods, pasture and farmland, overlooking the famous River Blackwater.

It has always been a private family home, and this is the first time it has become available for exclusive use rent. In immaculate order, the house comprises five luxury double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and a further wing of five smaller bedrooms with three bathrooms. There is also a self-contained staff flat.

A beautiful French-panelled drawing room opens onto the spacious hall, as do the study and morning room.

The dining room has a large table in the middle. A round table seating up to eight in the bay window overlooks the spectacular views shared by all the main rooms. The kitchen can seat eight comfortably and there is an Aga.

There is a games room with ¾ size billiard table, and a cinema suitable for the young. For the sportsmen there is a fishing/drying room.

Outside on the sweeping lawns, there is a croquet lawn and a hard tennis court. There is a lovely walled garden where the hens keep the house in fresh eggs.

This is an outstandingly beautiful place where the views are endless, migrating birds congregate on the river banks across the fields below the house.

There is fantastic fishing available on the prestigious river Blackwater. Rods and equipment can be hired locally and Fort William runs two and a half miles of double bank fishing.

Fort William, not to be confused with the town of the same name in the Scottish Highlands, is two miles from the little heritage town of Lismore, home to the Dukes of Devonshire. Their castle gardens are open to the public and there is a highly acclaimed contemporary art gallery there.

This part of the Blackwater Valley boasts numerous beautiful houses and gardens open to the public. Fort William is half an hour from wonderful beaches. There are renowned golf courses in the area, plenty of historically important towns and villages, and the airport in Cork is 50 minutes away.

There are high hills, rolling hills, farmer's markets, endless pubs and exceptionally friendly locals. It is paradise!
