A wide variety of activities are available locally, from riding or walking out onto the heather moors and in the great Caledonian pine forest, to visiting castles, gardens and whisky distilleries.  Golfers will appreciate the fact that there are 40 courses within 30 miles; Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay being top quality links courses within reach.  Fishing, shooting and stalking (red deer and roe deer) can be arranged if sufficient advance notice is given.

Many guests love to walk and picnic in the upland and woodland walks that exist in the locality.  Excellent guides are available, circuitous walks are well organised and it is always possible to arrange to be collected at an agreed point.
