Myres Castle

Introduction

Introduction

Myres Castle is an exceptionally comfortable home which guests will find hard to fault. Well managed and with charming local staff, it offers a very high standard of service to the discerning traveller. The nine bedrooms are all truly individual in their decoration and wonderfully cosy, with spacious en-suite bedrooms.

Activities

Being located in the Kingdom of Fife, Myres Castle is clearly in golfing heaven and guests are 20 minutes away from the Old Course at St.Andrews. Many other wonderful and challenging are close by including Kingsbarns, Ladybank, Elie, Crail and St.Andrews Bay. For non-golfers, the off road driving centre is 5 minutes up the road, clay pigoen shooting can be arranged on the lawn or a private tour of Falkland Palace can be laid on and this too is a five minute drive. Other castles are within easy reach, as are distilleries, cashmere outlets and lots of antique shops. My favourite day trip from here is the fishing village of East Fife - where you will discover quaint little fishing ports, lots of winding cobbled streets and Scotland's best fish & chip shop.

History

The history of Myres Castle is well documented from the early 15th Century when James 1st (of Scotland) granted Robert Coxwell possession of the south quarter of Auchtermuchty. In 1611, the castle passed out of the Scrymgeour family and for over 250 years it was owned by some of Scotland's famous family names - Patterson, Moncrief, Skene and Bruce. In 1877 the Castle was acquired by a James Ogilvie Fairlie, whose family lived at Myres until 1999 when they sold it to Mr and Mrs Jonathan White.
