The Castle is a fascinating home with a rich history that has been completely restored over the last few years. This historic Castle and Estate is situated on the southern shore of Loch Ness, close to the city of Inverness. The castle offers you a rare taste of authentic Highland Estate living at its best. You can choose from the heritage of the Castle to the romance of a traditional cottage for your holiday or event, set within stunning woodlands, gardens and landscape.
With a heritage as varied as the landscape in which it sits, the Estate through the generations is interwoven with Scotland’s national history. First recorded as a mansion house in 1626, with later additions including a wing by the famous Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer, the Castle is a classic example of Scottish Baronial architecture.
The Castle witnessed the passing of General Wade’s troops; it was a meeting place for the Lovat Scouts and also played an important part in the life of the famous artist GF Watts. In Victorian times, when aristocrats and industrialists followed the Royal Family north to the Highlands, the Castle's unique position as a sporting estate
beside Loch Ness, close to Inverness railway station, made it ideally suited to hosting house parties and holidays. The Castle – the only habitable Castle on the Loch – has been lovingly restored to its former glory.
The Castle and Estate is a heritage and environmental destination like no other in Scotland. With over five hundred acres to explore, it provides a maze of paths through woods and landscape, leading you along
the shores of Loch Ness and past the boat marina, through the 150-year old arboretum to the Victorian glasshouses and ancient family burial ground beyond. The natural environment and its abundance of wildlife, combined with fulfilling outdoor experiences and the comfort, quality and atmosphere of the Castle and
Estate lodgings create the magical experience.
