Felin Newydd was purchased in the early 20th Century by Sir David Evans Bevan and used as a shooting lodge to entertain friends and business associates. The house was completely redecorated during the 1950’s under the watchful eye of Lady Eira and with the help of the well known interior designer, at that time, Mrs Monro of 11 Montpelier Street, London. The house remained unaltered for nearly 50 years. The immediate grounds around the house have large lawns stretching down to the burbling Triffrwd River where the mill once stood. To the left of the house is a large Edwardian stable block with its own courtyard and entrance which also gives access to the rear of the house.
Felin Newydd House has undergone a complete restoration to make it the perfect place for you to use as your own country house home for a party, a weekend, a week, or even longer. This beautiful home has been given a new lease of life so that guests can have the pleasure of staying in a comfortable large historic country house as if it were your own. Boarded on the south side by the river, their framework marked by sweeping lawns and majestic historic trees, Felin Newydd's gardens are undergoing extensive renovation after a period in the shadows, to return them to a 21c version of their original 19c landscaped splendour. The design of the gardens follow the design of the house, with the very best of traditional structures and ideas blending with the best of current planting and design ideas.
The close proximity to the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye and Usk Valleys mean that most rural activities are available including hunting, shooting, fishing, horse riding, paragliding, regular gliding, climbing, gorge walking, white water rafting, clay pigeon shooting, motoring along the wonderful mountain roads or simply sitting on Llandefalle Common under the Red Kites and Buzzards watching the Welsh Mountain Ponies in their natural habitat. It is recommended that the latter exhausting activity be experienced with the following essential equipment: 1 large piece of Welsh cheese, a loaf of the local malted granary bread and at least one fine bottle of red.
