Austria

Austria has so much to offer and is a wonderful destination. Most of the west of the country is dominated by the Alps, where you will find traditional alpine villages with romantic chalets through to the larger winter ski resorts. And when there is no snow, the magnificent flower covered mountains provide some of the most fantastic hiking and mountain biking routes around.

This is a great country for a luxury vacation, whether in a private Austrian schloss or mountain hideaway, LTR arranges bespoke tours and can help you select the right place for your holiday.

Vienna and the other larger cities are home to several very famous museums and private art collections. The capital is Austria's main centre for music and its history and grandeur is reflected in its highly impressive architecture. Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace is also a wonderful and romantic city and like Vienna has some fabulous Baroque architecture, while Innsbruck nestles into the snow-capped mountains and has more of an alpine feel.

Much of Austria has an old fashioned atmosphere where people enjoy the simple pleasures of life like cycling along the Wachau stretch of the Danube River, past castles and vineyards or hiking through alpine scenery. Taking the cable car from Salzburg to the castle above and then walking down the hill with the city laid out in front of you is a memorable experience and there are charming restaurants where you can stop off for their famous wiener schnitzel.

LTR can recommend some lovely private Austrian castles or what they call Schloss. An example of this is Schloss Kogl, built in 1750 and only a short drive from Salzburg and just two hours from Vienna. The surrounding area is part of the 'Salzkammergut' which is famous for its many beautiful lakes, including the Attersee, the largest in Austria. This wonderful location offers swimming, fishing, surfing, sailing and hiking, and hunting expeditions can be arranged. This is the perfect spot for the whole family to relax and enjoy 'old Austria'.
