Spain
Spain is a fantastically varied country and whether you are renting a holiday villa on the coast with views across to Gibraltar and on a clear day as far as Tangiers, or enjoying a bespoke, luxury city tour, there is an incredible amount on offer.
LTR has been offering bespoke luxury vacations and tours in and around Madrid, the capital and largest city in Spain, for many years where it is justly famous for its archaeological museum and three art museums: Prado Museum, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, a museum of modern art, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, housed in the renovated Villahermosa Palace.
There are some delightful hotels and this is a wonderful destination for a really comfortable and cultured long weekend in a warm climate.
Amongst others, LTR represents a wonderful palace in the historic and very exclusive Santa Cruz neighbourhood of Seville. From each of the different rooms and terraces of the palace, guests can enjoy views of the Alcazar gardens, full of soaring palm trees and geometric parterres. The magnificent thirteenth century building was originally part of the Royal palace but is now a private residence.
The medieval façade shows an important sculpture of the American writer Washington Irving, who lived at the palace while he wrote his famous work “tales form the Alhambra”. Seville is hugely enjoyable to wander round with narrow streets, interesting shops and lovely tapas bars.
Another, is the totally modernised 16th Century fortified manor in the Andalucian province of Cadiz, a half hour's drive from Rondo, an hour and a half from the airport at Malaga, and two hours to Seville. This 'casa grande' has an important cultural history, and with eight luxurious ensuite principal bedrooms, a wonderful kitchen and outdoor swimming pool, you have a fabulous base from which to explore a Spain most tourists have never seen.
Barcelona is another city which seems to attract huge interest. The Capital and most populous city of Catalonia, guests can choose from a wonderful selection of luxury hotels and their vacation will be spent enjoying the architecture of Antoni Gaudi and Lluis Domenechi i Montaner in the Gothic Quarter of the city.
