West Coast Tour

Based at Blairquhan Castle, or you can base yourself at Culzean, Balgray or Glenapp Castle.

Monday

  • A.M. - Golf at Turnberry. Lunch at the Clubhouse. Visit Culzean Castle and gardens. Piper before dinner at Blairquhan.

  • Tuesday

  • Take the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick at 9.00 a.m. Play golf on one of the numerous charming courses on the island. Lunch at the Creelers (very good fish restaurant). P.M. - Visit Brodick Castle, probably the most interesting interior of any National Trust house in Scotland.

  • Wednesday

  • Take the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute (ferries take about 30 mins. and run every hour). Visit Mount Stuart which is the most remarkable house of its period in Scotland and has exotic gardens. Return to the mainland for tea or drinks at Ardgowan (home of Sir Houston and Lady Shaw Stewart). Dine at Blairquhan.

  • Thursday

  • Tour of Penkill (8 miles away) with Patrick Dromgoole, followed by coffee. Charming castle which was the Headquarters of the Pre-Raphaelites in Scotland. Lunch at Bardrochat (Alex and Cecelia McEwan) interesting part Lorimer House with excellent collection of Scottish paintings. Continue down the coast to Castle Kennedy (a garden on a vast scale designed in the early part of the 18th Century for the then Earl of Stair). If time, go on to Logan Gardens (Royal Botanic Society). Dine in the village of Port Patrick, which has excellent restaurants.

  • Friday

  • Golfers play Prestwick, followed by lunch at the club house. Non-Golfers visit the Burrell Collection in Glasgow. All meet up for tea at Capington Castle. Farewell dinner at Blairquhan. Entertained after dinner by Martin Treacher(pianist, singer, accordianist and bag piper).
